Using Air 2 Ground (A2G) weapons
Use training missions 3-5 to practice intercepting and destroying ground targets.
See Arming to get more information about given weapon and its range.
Switching to A2G mode and selecting weapon
- Make sure that your radar is in Air 2 Ground mode - press R key until you see "G" in the lower left corner of the HUD and on the radar.
- Your onboard radar will automatiacally lock onto first target that will be detected within radar range.
- You can change radar lock to next target within radar range using T key.
- When in A2G mode you can press W key to switch between onboard weapons:
- LAU-87 Rocket pod - unguided missiles
- BMB - MK-84 Bombs - conventional bombs
- MAV - AGM-65 Maverick
- HRM - AGM-88 HARM - available only when your aircraft is equipped with this anti radar weapon.
Unguided missiles
- Unguided missiles follow ballistic trajectory so the further you are from target you need to aim higher.
- Note that your fighter velocity adds to the velocity of the missile so to extend missile range fly as fast as possible before launching it. Also you have to account enemy heading and speed to determine how far missile has to travel.
AGM-65 Maverick - guided missiles
- Enemy ground target is in range when target rectangle is full.
- Best to fire the missile at low but not too low altitude (between 500 and 2000 FT) in slight descent straight towards the target.
- Missile may miss target when firing weapon at too high or too low descend angle towards target.
- Fire weapon only when enemy is in it's effective range (see approximate ranges above).
AGM-88 HARM anti-radar guided missiles
- Can only be locked on enemy ground radars.
- Have very long range so you can typicaly launch it being outside enemy radar's range.
- Note that sometimes they are not available when arming for the mission.
Bombs

- CCIP (Constantly Calculated Impact Point) - a small red dot designates approximate impact point of bomb if released at given time.
- CCIP is only shown when aircraft is below 2500 feet and keeps descending.
- If your aircraft is below 650 at the moment of impact it may get some damage from the bomb blast.
